This week on the Fan Engagement Podcast we are joined by Sophie Morris from Mill Harbour Marketing and Barry Cunningham from Irish Rugby. In a great discussion, we covered sponsorship trends for 2017, Irish Rugby and the story behind that pre-game no 8 on-field lineup versus the All-Blacks and of course good fan experiences.
Sophie was recently elected to board director of the European Sponsorship Association. They are a membership organisation open to all working in sponsorship be they sponsors, rights holders or agencies. They aim to be the voice of the industry in Europe, holding events and publishing best practice guides. Go to Sponsorship.org if you would be interested in attending the ESA Excellence Awards to take place in February 2017.
Barry Cunningham is in charge of social media for the IRFU, and brings great value to the fan engagement discussion as he shares his experiences from within the IRFU camp and what he sees as being truly innovative in other sports. Irish rugby has had some real groundbreaking social moments in recent years, most recently the formation of the Irish rugby team in a ‘figure 8’ to face the New Zealand haka, in remembrance of recently deceased Munster and Ireland legend Anthony Foley… An image which beamed throughout the world, and which was entirely “real” in its concept and execution.
